INTRO
Best year ever? Maybe.
I know that the Hurtin' Units and Brew Jays may not agree right now, but I've been on that side of the fence too. But with only 5 weeks left in the season the only things decided so far are this:
- The Dodge City Rounders can not finish last.
- The Hurtin' Units can not finish first.
The Rounders can finish 1st through 14th and the Hurtin' Units can finish 2nd thru 15th.
The other 13 teams can finish anywhere from 1 to 15. Unreal.

QUICK NOTES:
- We haven't lost a game since June 24th, a run of over a month of now rescheduled games. There are only two more lost games to be made up, one next week and one in week 15.
- We only lost 4 players in the 'hit in every game' competition this week. There are still 29 players left over 14 teams. No one figured out the team with no one. When we get to 20 players I'll list them.
- And the run in every game list remains unchanged from last week.
TEAMS
This worked well last week so I'm going to run with it until I get bored. I'll review teams by who had a good week, a so-so week and a down week by following a thumbs up, thumbs sideways and thumbs down method. Don't get too bent fellas, its just my opinion as I try to entertain. "Try" being the operative word.
Rusty Rebels 1-0
The Rebels had a stellar week, not only going 1 and 0; but also preventing the Dog Catchers from pulling away from the pack. Mark Banks was the big hitter for the Rebels going 4/4 and Rookie Victor Dermott chipped in with 3 runs.
Hot Tub Woody's 1-0
The Hot Tub Woody's rebounded nicely from last week's 0-2 record as they squeaked past the Sons Of Pitches 21 - 18. Jeff Dancey, Jason Chiovitti and Gord Robinson were all 5/5. Robinson joined Will Goodin in scoring 4 runs.
Dodge City Rounders 2-0
The first of our 2-0 teams are the Rounders who defeated the Brew Jays and Blues Brothers in two close games to wind up with a +8 on the week. Dodge was able to use a patch work lineup to eke out the wins. Keith Dell was 8 for 9 over the two games and scored 5 runs. They moved from a four way tie for 2nd place to be alone in 1st going into week 12.
Beer Bros. 2-0
Who saw this coming? Well, I might have had an inkling. But I'd be lying I said I thought that they would have a 2-0 +10 week against the Dusty Cleats and Dog Catchers. But they did and they were full value for the wins. The Bros. moved from a tie for 10th to a tie for 7th with their victories. In an unrelated statistic they are away with the attendance award as they had all 12 players both nights and for the 8th time this season. Brad Young was 7/8 for the Beer Bros. and scored 4 runs. Terry Doucet also had 4 runs.
Grisslies 2-0
The Grisslies join the Dodge City Rounders as the only teams on the hot-list for consective weeks. The Grisslies had a stellar week going 2-0 with a +22 and winning the Beer Cup by defeating the Brew Jays and the Draft Kings. Dan Routledge was 8/9 on the week and scored 6 runs. Cam Clark and Geoff Keogh each had 5 runs scored. The Grisslies moved from 9th place to alone in 6th place.
Draft Kings 1-1
The Draft Kings were 1 and 1 on the week with a plus 14. They had a blow out win over the Sliders then lost a close one to the Grisslies. Chuck Cragg was 8 for 8 on the week and is now 21 for his last 22. He also scored 5 runs on the week.
Tap Masters 1-1
There's a lot of teams with a chance to win the season, but it would be really hard to bet against the Tap Masters. That being said, they too missed an opportunity this week by splitting their games with the Hurtin' Units and Sliders. Gord Tanner led the way at the plate this week going 8/9. Next week they'll take on the Draft Kings and the Grisslies.
Sliders 1-1
The Sliders split againt the Draft Kings and the Tap Masters. Kevin Moon was 8/8 in the two games there wasn't a cheap hit among them. The Sliders continue to have games in hand and are much closer to the top than the standings would indicate. Next week the Sliders have a rare 3 game week where they'll take on the Brew Jays, Hurtin' Units and Draft Kings. Sweeping will make them a viable contender. Being swept will make a top 6 finish difficult to achieve.
Gruesome Devils 1-1
The Devils looked like the Devils of seasons passed with their 21-8 win over the Units, but could only manage 6 runs against the Sons Of Pitches as they went 1-1. Greg Aucoin's 7/8 week was the offensive highlight. Looking ahead the Devils have a difficult with two top 6 teams in the Dodge City Rounders and Blues Brothers on the horizon.
Sons Of Pitches 1-1
It was an interesting week for the Sons Of Pitches. The 21-18 loss to the Woody's was viewed as one that they let get away and the 7-6 win over the Gruesome Devils was one they went and got by getting two in the 7th. David Polny has now scored in 11 consecutive games, counting 22 runs total in that span. The SoP's have a light week next week with one game facing the team they're tied with in the standings, the Rusty Rebels.
Blues Brothers 0-1
The Blues Brothers dropped a 2 run decision to the Dodge City Rounders in a game that was very competitive. They trailed big early, battled back to take a lead into the 7th only to have victory snatched at the end. Bob McCullough's 4/5 night led the way. The Blues moved from a second place tie to being alone in 5th by virtue of the loss.
Dusty Cleats 0-1
The Cleats took it on the chin dropping a 15-10 decision to the Beer Bros. in their only game of the week. Winston Gayle was 5/5 in the game. Dane Eldridge has now scored in 8 consecutive games. Next week as another one game week for the Cleats and they'll take on the Dog Catchers.
Dog Catchers 0-2
The Catchers two loss week sure made things interesting. They opened with a 3 run loss to the spirited Rusty Rebels and then fell to a suddenly rejuvenated Beer Bros. squad by 5. The problem with being in 1st is everyone is gunning for you. So the Dog Catchers go from alone in 1st to a 3 way tie for 2nd. Hardly a tragedy but they're no longer in complete control. Larry Turner held the hot stick this week going 8 for 8 and Steve Lahey scored 6 runs.
Brew Jays 0-2
No wins and -24 on the week, it was a tough one. Bo Niederhuber and Brad Wadden were both 6/7 in the two games. The Jays are 5 points ahead of the Hurtin' Units for 15th place; but they are only 4 points from catapulting into 12th. Next week they'll set their sights on the Sliders in their only game.
Hurtin' Units 0-2
The Units are officially out of the 1st place hunt now. As we are out of clean rescheduling dates the Units have a 3 game week next week which will take them to their final stretch of 5 games. They have the Blues Brothers, Sliders and Beer Bros., all teams .500 or better and clamoring for positioning as the schedule winds down. A two win week will strike some fear into some teams, 3 wins will cause some real damage.
The Beer Cup
For the 1st time the Grisslies own the Beer Cup! Antics will ensue and we'll secure a donation of $50.00 to HTK by doing something wacky and wonderful with the Beer Cup! Click HERE to read about previous works of wonder by other teams.
The Beer Cup is in its 2nd year. Last years champs, the Dodge City Rounders retained the Beer Cup to start the season and defended it twice by beating the Blues Brothers and the Brew Jays. The Sons Of Pitches then defeated Dodge to take it over before losing it to the Rusty Rebels. The Rebels were defeated by the Tap Masters. The Tap Masters, who waited for a year to play for the cup were only able to retain it for a single game as they fell to the Beer Bros. The resilient Beer Bros. beat the 1st place Hot Tub Woody's to become the second team to retain the cup. However, their ownership wouldn't last the week as they fell to the Blues Brothers. The Blues Brothers would then defend against the Tap Masters and most recently by beating the 1st place Dog Catchers! But it wouldn't last. They fell to last years champs the Draft Kings. The Draft Kings enjoyed a title defense against the Sliders before the Grisslies wrestled it away from them.
The holders of the Beer Cup at the end of the season receive both the cup and 12 beer tickets at the banquet.
Next week the Grisslies will try to defend against the Hot Tub Woody's on Tuesday. If they get by that game they'll have to face the Tap Master on Thursday.

STATS
Team
Closed: Where each team ranked after their 1st 11 games of the season marking the 1/2 way point.
Where everyone is so far in the 2nd half. Early returns, but it appears that the Grisslies and Draft Kings are noticeably improved.
This is new. I've been playing with something to try and separate pretenders from contenders. I don't think this does that necessarily, but this is the problem with me and stats. I believe that there is some combination of numbers that is 'perfect' and will reveal all to the keen eye. I keep searching.
So what this does (and its completely arbitrary) is ignore a teams wins and just looks at their minus in their losses and divide by the number of total losses. Example, the Grisslies have lost 6 games by a total of 30 runs so when they lose they lose by an average of 5 runs. What does this tell you? Well to me they are in games almost always. And Roman will tell you its because of our highly coveted defensive positioning.
This showed me what I was hoping and had some surprises.
1. The Tap Masters are simply ridiculous. And the Blues Brothers aren't far behind. I knew both were good, but these low numbers caught me off guard.
2. The Dusty Cleats and Brew Jays are EXACTLY what I expected. They are meandering in 13th and 14th place respectively but their game scores belie their records.
3. The Dodge City Rounders and Rusty Rebels surprised me the other way. When the lose, they tend to lose bigger than expected.
Take it for what its worth. Its a stat.
This is also new. It was born out of the one above and further breaks down how teams win and lose. What I've done here is award 3 points for winning by ten or more. 2 points for winning by four to nine runs. 1 point for either winning or losing by three runs or less. -2 points for losing by four to nine runs and -3 points for losing by more than ten.
The Rusty Rebels, Hot Tub Woody's, Blues Brothers, Draft Kings and Dodge City Rounders are the only teams that are 2 or more position different in this list than where they appear in the league standings. For the rest of the teams it might be that we are who appear to be in the standings. These 5 might be a little better or a little worse than their record would imply.
Baseball standings! The Rounders are rolling a four game winning streak into 1st place. We have 10 teams within 2 1/2 games of first place with five awesome weeks of baseball remaining on the schedule. This is going to be fun.
Dodge and the Dog Catchers heading the list of quick strike offenses doesn't shock me. The team in 3rd is an eye opener, but we seem to have a lineup that is clicking right now.
Your traditional hockey 'points' standings.
And here is your MAX points list. You can see that the Hurtin' Units have a possibility of achieving 22 points which would tie the Rounders for 1st place. However they've already played the each other with Dodge winning and they don't play again; hence, the Units lose the tie breaker and can not finish 1st.
Team averages are coming closer together. The Dog Catchers fall from their ridiculous .749 was predicable but them getting 7 out of 10 guys on base regularly is still daunting.
The magic number list....not much to say about this, the variables are endless.
My favourite team stat. The power rankings! Considering all the surprises this week, there aren't a lot of changes. The Dog Catchers were unimpeded by their 2 losses. The Tap Masters unaffected by their 1-1 record. The Beer Bros didn't move up with their two wins.
Top 10 Average is WIDE OPEN right now. And lurking on the list without enough ABs to qualify right now is Scott Barton. All the leaders struggled this week (by their elevated standards) with the exception of Chuck Cragg who was perfect on the week.

CLOSED: Congrats Rick!!! Nice 6 game stretch.
This is the time of year Moon gets hot. This is traditionally the lowest quarter for average, I think this season will break the trend
5 weeks to go in the season and Lahey is 5 runs away from 2012 leaders. He needs 20 runs over his final 6 games (3.4 a game) to pass Terry's record. I wouldn't bet against him.

Adrian Barry is playing with the big boys! Go get 'em tiger.
Adrian is still leading in ABs and Laurier has played the same number of games. Stay healthy and don't miss a game and you'll join the likes Lepa, Doucet and Young.
Skippy has two games in hand on Lahey and could catch him at his rate of OBA. But for the rest, it'll take a major Lahey slump to get back in the game.
That is a whack of rookies over .500. Its not supposed to be this easy!
Nyers, Hags and Plante....I don't think all three can collapse. One of these guys will win it.
A 95 point lead would look pretty safe, eh? I'm not entirely sure. Hollmann, Edwards, Goodin, Mason, Beechey....all of them really. If one gets stupid hot and Lahey slips at all, look out.
And finally after 6 and a 1/2 hours of reading, the most improved list!
The DeLands are taking this competition seriously. Stevie boy holds a slim .014 lead over big bro Doug. Dancey is hanging on by a thread, but this list is chalked full of great hitters, it'll be tough to win this one.
