Game 8 & 13

Huh?

Game 8 & 13?

Ya.  Game 8 was the make up against the Beer Bros. and game 13 was our regularly scheduled game against the Dog Catchers.

INTRO

Rob:  Hey....did you let the guys know about the make up game?
Doug:  Yep.
Rob:  So they're all coming?
Doug:  I don't know.
Rob:  Why not?
Doug:  I haven't heard back from them yet.
Rob:  Huh?  How did you get them?
Doug:  Ummmm.  I emailed, video chatted, tweeted, posted on facebook, PINNED, texted and blogged.
Rob:  And you didn't get any of them?
Doug:  Nope.
Rob:  Did you try calling their home number?
Doug:  You are truly wise.
Rob:  I know.  But this is quite a departure from the norm for you.  You usually infer that I'm stupid.
Doug:  No.  I imply it.  You infer it.
Rob:  Huh?  I don't really know what you mean.  SQUIRREL!  What's that you're eating?
Doug:  Oh, I just made half a sandwich.
Rob:  That's stupid.
Doug:  what is?
Rob:  You can't make "half a sandwich".
Doug:  WHY?
Rob:  Who's the implicator now, eh?  A sandwich is a sandwich.  It doesn't matter what size it is.
Doug:  Well what if I make a sandwich and give you half?  We each have 1/2 a sandwich.  Right?
Rob:  No.  We each have a Sandwich.  Think about it.  You can't dig half a hole. A hole is a hole.
Doug:  I'm not having this conversation.  You've snapped.
Rob:  hahahah.  You're quitting because you're losing.
Doug:  Look.  I think Fleming's right.  We do share a brain.  But I'm pretty sure I've got it signed out right now.
Rob:  Pretending to like you is my greatest gift.

So....

This was pretty much a slay the dragon week for us if we were going to still try to be a factor this year.  Losing two 1-run games last weeks to the Rusty Rebels and the Dusty Cleats was acceptable.  But it dropped us to a game under .500 with the Beer Bros., and Dog Catchers this week.  The Beer Bros. have had the Grisslies number since they game into the league.  And the Dog Catchers are the Dog Catchers.  They don't play our kind of ball.

Then there's next week's horizon games.  The Brew Jays who the Grisslies have never beaten in a regular season game and the Draft Kings who were 3-6 about 10 minutes and are now 7-6 and rolling.

Our record at the start of fan appreciation night was 5-4, two days later is was 5-6 and with the very real danger of falling to 5-10 in very short order.

Enter the dragon.

What Paul Piellusch normally does to the Grisslies

Mickey is the Dog Catchers.  And before anything thinks that's a put down, Disney now owns the Star Wars family which is what the Dog Catchers are to the league's pitchers.  They own them.

Disney aside, Lord Vader is still Lord Vader.  I think this is what opposing pitchers see when Mr. Lahey strides to the plate. All that's missing is the imperial march music.

This serves no real purpose other than KT will read it and digs hip-hop quotes.  And you can't go wrong with Marshall Mathers.

How I generally feel when the next game is against the Beer Bros., Brew Jays or (this year) Dog Catchers.

Snape....you friggin' KILL me!

See two above.  I would nod and then I'd take the green pill.  Then I would follow the white rabbit.  Then....

The Games

A funny thing happened on the way to 0-2 this week.

The Grisslies managed to garner 3 of a possible 4 points!  YaY!

How, you might ask?  Well, for the most part the Beer Bros., was about a balanced attack by the Grisslies and surviving Paul Piellusch.  Rob Pitched well in this one, but other than Paul's 4/4 with 4 runs scored there wasn't much sting in the Beer Bros. bats.  Unusual to say the least!

The Dog Catchers game was completely different.  The Grisslies led 4-2 after one.  The game was tied at 5's after two.  The Grisslies led 12-8 after three and 12-9 after four.

The Dog Catchers crossed us up bringing in Laurier Plante to pitch.  He allowed one base runner and no runs in 4th and 6th innings around a 3 up 3 down 5th.  Ouch.  They have a closer too!!!  Meanwhile the Catchers offense was just warming up.  1 in the fourth and 6 in the 5th to take their first lead at 15-12.

The Grisslies traded 3 up 3 down 6th's with the Dog Catchers.  Steve Lahey would score his 4th run in his 4th at bat in the top of the 7th to give the Dog Catchers a 16 - 12 lead with the Imperial March playing in the back ground.

Cue the dramatics.  Yoke, lead off single.  Moves to third on Chiasson's sharp single to right.  Fordy hits into a fielders choice erasing Chiasson at 2nd and scoring Yoke from 3rd.

1 one; 1 out; down 3.  Escott at the plate.

Dude came up with a clutch single advancing Ford to 2nd.

2 one; 1 out; down 3.  Micah at the plate.

The rookie looked over a couple of pitches, maybe hit one foul, before depositing a pitch over the left field fence to tie the game at 16's.

We did manage to get the winning run on base after that, but couldn't quite push him around to score.  Didn't matter.  That tie felt like a win!
