Less boring this week!
First the Joints held onto the beer cup by the narrowest of margins by tying the Dusty Cleats at 17 (more on that game in the Tid-Bits section). Yes a tie retains the title. You must LOSE the cup to surrender it. They remain the holders until bested by someone else.
In their second game of the week they faced a motivated Dodge City Rounders squad who withstood a late rally by the Joints to win 16-11 and become the latest owners of the cup. The Rounders also become the 3rd team to hold the cup for a second time this season joining the Joints and Red Dogs.
Dodge City has 2 games left and we've gone from 7 teams with a possibility of winning to 3. The Dodge City Rounders, Hot Tub Woody's and Blues Brothers. Here's all the possible scenarios:
IF: The Dodge City Rounders win their last two games, they'll win the inaugural Beer Cup (obviously)
IF: The Dodge City Rounders play the Hot Tub Woody's on August 27th. If the Woody's win, they'll win the Beer Cup.
IF: The Dodge City Rounders beat the Woody's, they will play the Blues Brothers on September 3rd with the winner of that game winning the Beer Cup.
Teams that have held the Beer Cup(7)
- Beer Bros.
- Hot Tub Woody's
- Dislocated Joints (2)
- Dodge City Rounders (2)
- Red Dogs (2)
- Brew Jays
- Blues Brothers
Teams that have defended the Beer Cup(2)
- Dislocated Joints (4)(5)
- Brew Jays (2)
Teams that have yet to play for the Cup(6)
- Dog Catchers
- Draft Kings
- Rusty Rebels
- Tap Masters
- Don Slipitz is in the proverbial 'zone'. In Monday's win against the Gruesome Devils he went 5 for 5 with two mammoth home runs. He would follow that up with another blast on Wednesday while going 4/4. Overall Don is 24 for his last 25 and up to .806. Ya, that's 'in the zone' alright.
- In the same game Steve Wynnyk went 5 for 5 with 5 runs scored. The Dog Catchers (leading 23-5 going into the 7th) would have needed to bat around for Steve to join the 6/6/6 club. Gives you an idea of how tough that stat is to attain.
- Dodge City narrowly lost to the resurgent Beer Bros. on Monday night. Both clubs have been two of the more entertaining teams in the second half. A deep playoff run by either would be no surprise to me.
- The Red Dogs won their 6th game of the year out slugging the Rusty Rebels 19-8. In that game, Stephane Simard had his 7th perfect night at the plate this season going 5 for 5 with 5 runs scored. Personally, Stephane would be on my short list of most improved along with Lou Conforti and Dave Fleming. There's lots of candidates, but those guys stand out to me.
- The Dislocated Joints hung onto the Beer Cup on C3 on Tuesday night. Barely. This was a fun last inning to watch. The Joints had a 17-13 lead heading into the top of the 7th when the never say quit Dusty Cleats punched out four runs to tie the game. The Joints needed just one to win and started the inning with a single and a double leaving runners at 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. This was going to be easy. Not so much. After a brief mound conservation, the Cleats made the prudent baseball play by walking the bases full to set up the force play. Nice call. The next batter hit a tailor made double ball to 3rd. Step on the bag and throw home. Two down runners at 1st and 2nd now. The next batter lined out to 1st base ending the inning and the Cleats escaped with a tie and the Joints escaped retaining the Beer Cup
- That game also saw the Chris "The Whale" Parsons go 5/5. For the record he was a .561 hitter in the league before Roman gave him the new nickname and batting 1.000 since.
- Ummmmm. The Grisslies won. Against a REAL team. A team with a positive run differential. Its been 3 days, I'm still shocked. I'm sure the rest of you are too, considering that 72% of respondents expected us to go winless for the balance of the year.
Yep a lot of you thought that we'd run the table and go 2-21-1. I'll be honest, that was my vote too. Only two people bet we'd beat they Woody's. That was probably Dancey and Hopkins. I heard they had money on the game.
- Again with the how hard is it to do the 6/6/6? Scott Mason had a great night with 6/6/5 and had no chance of completing the triple because in his last at bat the 7th run was at 2nd. You gotta be good and you gotta be lucky too.
- Meanwhile, in case you missed the memo, Wednesday was homer night at Keogh park. In the two games featuring the Dog Catchers, Tap Masters, Blues Brothers and Beer Bros., there were no fewer than 8 home runs that left the yard. There was also a buffet of inside the park jobs to boot. Radar nearly hit 3 in his game, with an insider, one that left the park with plenty to spare down the left field line and one that was about 2 feet (some said under a foot) shy of leaving in left center field.
- Thursday saw three games. The first game saw two depleted line ups (Brew Jays & Red Dogs) battle things out. Stephane Simard and Peter Holmann were both 3/3 in the game. No other Red Dog had more than a single hit and six of the ten batters only got up twice. It didn't start quite on time but was over at 7:53pm. I'd say it was somewhere around the 50 minute mark. Jay 9, Dogs 2.
- The Dodge City Rounder seem to be surviving loss of Mr Fry thus far. They managed to win the game against the Joints by 5 while holding the league's best offense to 11 runs.
- The Rusty Rebels lost a 1 run game, 12-11 to the Gruesome Devils to close the week. The Devils did 7 run damage in one inning while the Rebels seemed to balanced throughout, yet not enough in the end. The game 'felt' like the Rebs were up throughout. Odd this game.
- The list of players who have hit in every game has a couple of changes. Frist, I missed a game #8 donut by Brian Richards. I don't know how I missed that and my apologies for the late removal Brian, but fair is fair. We also lost Cam Clark's perfect record. We're now down to 11. Here are those left:
- Beer Bros. (1): Fleming (2 games remaining)
- Blues Brothers (1): Mason (4 games remaining)
- Brew Jays (1): McCullough (1 game remaining)
- Dislocated Joints (3): Moon, Burton, Doucet (1 game remaining)
- Dodge City Rounders (0):
- Dog Catchers (1): Young (2 games remaining)
- Dusty Cleats (1): Hollingshead (1 game remaining)
- Grisslies (0):
- Draft Kings (1): Stike (2 games remaining)
- Gruesome Devils (1): Basso (2 games remaining)
- Hot Tub Woody's (1): Goodin (1 game remaining)
- Hurtin' Units (0):
- Red Dogs (0):
- Rusty Rebels (0):
- Tap Masters (0):

Power Rankings???? Cha! Okay, this one is a pain in the ass to put together and I haven't had time, but its actually been a pretty telling stat in years past. Its easy to figure out. If your 1st place in points, offense, defense or plus/minus you get 1 point. If you're in 2nd place in those categories you get 2 points.
Lets walk through the Woody's. They are tied with the Gruesome Devils for points in 5th place so they get five in that column (5). Their offense, calculated by runs scored divided by games played and ranked against everyone elses, is 9th in the league; the they get nine (9) points for offense. They have the 5th ranked defense and 4th best plus minus. So 5+9+5+4 = 23 and when sorted against the other clubs they come out with the 5th best power ranking.
The Colour codes are simple. Yellow means that you are playing to the position you have in the standings. If its green your stats are better than the points you've gotten on the season. If its green, you "out-pointing" what the stats say.
These are the current league standings including the most amount of points a teams could get.
The elimination Chart. This shows what team can finish in which spot...sort of a picture of the standings above. Example: The Dislocated Joints, Gruesome Devils, Brew Jays, Dog Catchers, Hot Tub Woody's and Blues Brothers all can finish in 4th place. All other teams are eliminated from that spot. This also takes into account head to head tie breakers. By The Way, you can find these standings and chart updated after every nights games on the OCD standings page by clicking on the tab at the top of this page or clicking HERE.
First half standings show where every team was after their 1st 12 games. The second column shows were they rank in the current standings. If you are withing one position of where you were 1/2 way through the season its yellow. Worse is red, better is green.
And likewise, the second half standings. This counts game 13 forward. Same colour coding as above.
This brings a tear to my eye. For the 1st time this season the Grisslies are taking less than 3 hits to score a run. AWESOME! The joints havent' really budged on this one, but the Brew Jays have been climbing nicely as they get into playoff mode.
Individual
Okay, lets start with the batting race. As mentioned above, Slipetz going 24 for his last 25 has made this interesting. Kahuna and Terry are pretty much out of it as they only have one game left and too many at bats to make a dramatic climb. Scott has one game left and Don two. Here is a little chart to show how they'll finish assuming they both get 5 ABs in their remaining games.
Well this should come as no surprise to anyone. Slipetz has been nothing short of ON FIRE! Even still....9 guys at .900 or better, it looks like playoff mode is being hit by many!
The hit parade....This looks like it will come down to the wire. Brad still has 2 games left to Terry and Kahuna's single game. It would take some unexpected events, but you never know. (except 20 minutes into election night when they declare the winners.
Last year we had 3 players hit the 100 AB mark. This year we're at 5 with the posibility of hitting Double digits. better attendance throughout the league? Offense up? Hard say the cause.
Last year there were 15 guys over 40 runs .... we're at 11 now with time left. The runs in a season record has been broken by 5 guys so far. Scotty Peters looks like he'll actually improve on his 1st place number from last year but could still be a dozen or so out of the lead. Crazy game.
There have been two times this season that Terry Doucet didn't score at least 2 runs in a game. He had one zero and one (1) run night. That will have to happen again in his last game or we'll also have a new record for runs in a quarter. Considering that he's scored 3 or more in 10 of his games, its looking pretty good.
Okay second year boys.....This looks like it comes to Brad and Emeil. Hopefully Emeil's injury is a minor one. Mason's 6/6 busted him back on to the list and Wadden has been coming on steadily. The rest of the gang have been in these sport for probably 1/2 the season.
Donnie Slipetz is pounding...... I left Chris Nyers in despite the low at bats ... nice start Chris. Hayward and Clouthier have had very consistent years.
Mr. Conforti !!!! hard to say if he can withstand the push from Dane, but Lou's been pretty much top of this chart all year. 10 guys over.125.....that' amazing.

I heard nothing about an official inquiry regarding wagering on TOT games...and besides both Dancey and Hopkins were out of the country at game time. They said something about an unexpected windfall and were looking at real estate in the Turks & Caicos Islands...
