Week 11 Review

STATs:

You see what happens, as the stats accumulate?  As automated as I try to make it it takes a little longer every week.  Oh....woe is me.  Good thing I like this stuff, hope the next guy does too!

This week we'll talk about the changes from last week to this; with the emphasis being on the positive changes, of course.

Congratulations to the Brew Jays who moved into sole possession of 1st place this week and pushed the Joints down to 2nd place for the first time this year.  And 10 week run at the top spot is impressive and they still have a game in hand.  The Grisslies moved from being alone in 14th to a tie for 9th by virtue of their two wins.  The Hurtin' Units went from 12th to 8th and are knocking on the door of the .500 mark as they had a 2 win week as well.  The Beer Bros. win and tie seemingly did nothing for them in the standings as they remain in 5th, but they are still within sight of the leaders and are 2 over the .500 mark.

Q1 Averages - based on everyone's 1st 6 games (Closed)

Q2 Averages - based on everyone's games 7-12 (Closed)

Q3 Averages - based on everyone's games 13-18 (open)
To qualify for this you must have 2 at bats for every game your team has played in this segment.  So when it closes, you'll need 12 at bats to be included.  Just in case you're wondering why someone might be missing.  The only person who remains on this list from last week is Adrian Barry, who is off to a wicked start for this quarter.  Everyone else is perfect thus far; not much to choose from here.  Start your betting now.  I have Kolsen at 7/5 odds.

And here is our overall - season long averages, again focusing on the +.800 club.  It seems unbelievable to me, but this list actually grew this week!  Joining these other monster hitters this week are Al Fry, Rob Rumboldt and Andy Gee.  You know, 2 of those 3 have had little humorous pieces written about them in the BLOG, maybe its time for Mr Rumboldt to join in.  Keep it up guys!

Well, I buggered up the runs spread sheet this morning.  Probably to the point of going back to scratch.  So rather than delay this getting out, I thought I'd skip the Quarter leaders this week and just do the total.  Last week Al and Roger were tied for the lead at 29.  Roger scored 2 runs, but it wasn't enough as Al grabbed the lead back yet again.  Phil moved from 7th to a tie for 3rd with McCarron.  And Gord Robinson makes his first appearance on the list this year and jumps right into the middle of the pack!

Your 1st inclination might be to think that the Banshees have played more games than anyone else.  Not so much.  The Woody's have played 16, the Banshees 15 and 7 other clubs have played 15 as well. Unless Jerry stops batting lead off, he's going to be tough to catch.  New to this weeks list are Diamond Jim Rouleau, Cal Russell, Steve (Stike) Black, Keith (Venice) Beechey, Chris Larkin and Scott (Chachi Arcola) Peters.   I'm feeling a full fledged nickname BLOG coming on.

Scott snuck passed Jens and Tim this week.  And Al Fry jumped from 8th to 2nd on the list.  New additions are Brian Richards, Jim Rouleau (you think he's be hot lately?) Andy Gee and Rob Rumboldt.

Roger Gaudet more than doubled his lead in this category this week and Clayton jumped from 10th to 4th on the list.  New this week are Gord Robinson and Rick Cudnik.

Roger is starting to dominate this and the previous category much like Al did in the 1st half of the season.  New this week are Phil Glecoff and Don Booth.

Well, this turned upside down this week!  Jason Chiovitti has kicked teammate Steve Lahey to the curb!  I shouldn't have Handley in there with the limited at bats, but I didn't notice until it was too late and didn't want to redo everything.  8 Rookies over .700 and a bunch more with a chance.  Nice crop.

Rick actually widened his lead this week and he continues with an impressive year.  In fact so do all these guys.  The only new one to the list is Mark Bickford who has been tearing the cover off of the ball lately.

REVIEW:

Banshees 10; Brew Jays 16
The Brew Jays scored 14 runs over the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings to lock this one away.  Leading the way were Tito Presenza (4/4,1), Dave Polney (4/4,3), Dave Fleming (4/4, 1) and sub Chris Larkin (4/4, 1).  The Banshees had no perfect nights in this one but a very balanced attack with 8 players gathering either 3 or 4 hits.
Lucky Stiffs 10; Dodge City Rounders 7
This game was tied or within a run until the last inning when the Stiffs pushed across two insurance runs.  They were led by the officially "on fire" Andy Gee who was 5/5 with 3 runs scored.  Rookie Jason Chiovitti was aslo perfect going 4/4 with a run.  Dodge City was once again led by Al Fry who was 4/4 with a run.  Also perfect and playing great right now were Mark Bickford (4/4, 1) and Adrian Barry (4/4)

Beer Bros. 24; Rusty Rebels 18
In what had been a relatively close game, the Beer Bros. salted it away with a 7 run 5th inning.  Neil Pendlebury had the line of the week going 5/5 with 5 runs scored.  He was closely followed by Len Wercholoz (4/4, 4).  You can't do much better than that.  Paul Piellusch (5/5, 3) and Brad Smith (5/5, 3) were also perfect, just not quite AS perfect.  The Rebels got some great offensive performances themselves from Don Booth (5/5, 2), Mike Ghaney (5/5, 2) and rookie Brad Wadden (5/5, 4).

Red Dogs 14; Dislocated Joints 9
This game was scoreless through 2 and the Red Dogs rolled a 5.  They wouldn't be challenged from there forward.  The Joints didn't get on the board until the 6th but it was too late to make a serious push.  The Red Dogs only perfect hitter was there ever improving rookie Jon Hardy who was 4/4.  The Joints were led by Dave McGovern's 4/4 night.

Grisslies 14; Hot Tub Woody's 6
The Woody's got out to a quick start on this night but the Grisslies were able to battle back against a tough rookie pitcher who recorded 3 strikeouts on the night.  The only perfect night for the Grisslies were from Dave Doucette (4/4, 3) and sub Stephane Simard (4/4).  In addition to the Jeff Handley debut, the Hot Tub Woody's were led offensively by Chuck Cragg (4/4, 2), Cliff Tucker (3/3, 1) and Doug DeLand (3/3).

Hurtin' Units 17; Dog Catchers 16
In a spirited game the Units scored 5 in the top of the 7th to take a 17 - 14 lead.  The Dog Catchers scored two of there own in the bottom of the inning and had the tying run at second and winning run at first when the Units got out of trouble.  The Dog Catchers had no perfect nights but did get 3 run performances from Larry Turner and Phil Glecoff.  The big hitters for the Hurtin' Units were Clayton Avery (5/5, 4) and Rob Rumboldt (5/5, 1).
Dog Catchers 10; Tap Masters 6
Is it me or does there seem to be a lot of 10 run games this year?  The Dog Catchers had no perfect nights in this one, but 5 guys with 3 hits in a pretty even attack.  The Tap Masters had only one perfect night themselves as Geoff Keogh was 3/3 with a run scored.  Truth be told the Tap Masters were severely let down by there sub (me).

Gruesome Devils 6; Grisslies 8
It ended up being a well played defensive game, but it started with the Grisslies getting 6 in the 1st and needing to hold off a late charge.  In an unusually down night for the Devils they had 7 players held to 1 or fewer hits.  The Grisslies only perfect hitter on this night was Jeff Sagert who was 4/4 with a run scored.

Dodge city Rounders 15; Beer Bros. 15
There was no huge comeback in this one, this was more like two heavy weights trading blows.  The Beer Bros. got excellent performances from Winston Galyle (4/4, 3), Peter Holmann (4/4, 3) and Len Wercholoz (3/3, 1).  Dodge City was led by super rookie Scott "the stone" Mason's 5/5 night with 2 runs scored.

Hot Tub Woody's 10; Dusty Cleats 6
Two teams that play low scoring, close to the vest games.  Typically.  This game was no exception as sustained rallies were hard to come by.  the Cleats got a perfect night out of Scott "no surprise there" Barton (4/4, 2) and Fraser Barrett (4/4).  The Woody's were led by sophomore outfielder Brad Moye (4/4, 3) and rookie Jeff Handley (4/4, 1).
Banshees 7; Red Dogs 11
A late rally by the Banshees wasn't enough to overcome the Red Dogs early lead.  Gary Cox led the way in this one with a 4/4 night and 2 runs scored.  He was joined by Mark Kolsen (3/3), Jon Hardy (3/3, 1), Robert Quadrini (3/3, 2) and Eric "the red" Hipkin (3/3, 1)

Hurtin' Units 20; Lucky Stiffs 7
The Lucky Stiffs were trailing 13 - 1 after 5 and never were really in this one as the Hurtin' Units scored in every inning and never let off the gas.  The Stiffs only perfect night was from Andy Gee who is rocketing up the hitting stats.  He was 4/4 with a run scored.  Despite the offensive outburst, the Units only had one perfect night themselves and that was Jamie Allan's 5/5 with 3 runs.
