BLOG CHANGE
Last night there were tons of hits to the BLOG, 500+ actually. I know everyone is looking for scores. I got txts and emails as well. First off, that is VERY cool! Second, I can't update the BLOG on the fly from phone effectively so I "Tweeted" out scoring updates every couple of innings. Well, that only works if you have Twitter.
Until now.
If you look at the top of this page you'll see a black banner running across that looks like this:
If you click on the last tab, "TWITTER FEED" it pop up another BLOG page for you where you can read all the Twitter updates real time. I tested it, its virtually instantaneous. The feed looks like this:
The most current one is always at the top. All you have to do is hit F5 or reload to make sure you have the most current updates.
What's also kind of cool about this is that if you chose to comment on any of the updates you see, your response will show up here for everyone else to view as well. There are a few who do have Twitter accounts so I'll look forward to your funny (and clean) commentary.
There will be no updates tonight on here between 7:30 and 8:45 ish while the Grisslies play, but after that, and perhaps before, it will be fast and furious.
Hope this helps. (Oh, there's a scroll bar on the side of the window so you can go back and see the 25 most recent posts.
GAMES:
General points about the evening. 1. The ball was flying out. 2. Any thoughts that runs would be at a premium in the early playoff games can be laid to rest. 3. No upsets. Close ... but not quite.
Rusty Rebels Vs. Draft Kings: I'd like to say we learned something about the Draft Kings, but I don't really think so. Except that perhaps, they can beat you more ways than originally thought. They weren't a power house offensive team in the season. They were very middle of the pack. They were the leagues elite defensive squad though, giving up just over 9 runs a game. So what happens? They give up 17. Almost twice as much as normal. And they roll a 20 to make up for it.
You have to feel a little sorry for the Rebels in this one. They did so much right in this game, its a shame to get so close and have it slip away. They got up early. 6-0 after the first. The Draft Kings fought back to go up 16-13 after five and give the Rebels every opportunity to fold. They didn't.
With two out in the 6th and no one on, they strung together a 4 run rally to take a 17-16. They bounced back but couldn't withstand the next four run blast from the Draft Kings.
Player of the game: Dan Routledge. Lots of guys had nice nights for the Draft Kings, but Dan was hitting behind Steve Brooks who had homered in his first at bat. The next two times he walked. On both occasions, Dan made those walks hurt with crucial hits in a close game. Overall he was 4/4 with 2 runs scored, but he also drove in a bunch. Nice night Danno.
Next up for the Draft Kings (1) 1-0, Grisslies (15) 0-0
Next up for the Rusty Rebels (12), Hot Tub Woody's (6) 0-0
Dusty Cleats Vs. Dislocated Joints. This game also started with a lot of hope for the underdog. The Dusty Cleats came out of the box fast scoring 5 in the first and making a statement to the Dislocated Joints that they were in for a long night. The Joints took it in stride and answered with 6 of their own in the bottom of the inning. The Cleats had scored another by the end of the 3 innings but the Joints had scored 2 in the second and 7 in the 3rd to take a commanding 15 - 6 lead after 3 complete.
The top of the 4th was one of those moments in a game where you needed to right the ship. The Dusty Cleats needed to score and then get a hold in the bottom of the inning or else it threatened to get away from them.
And score they did. They got seven when they needed it desperately and brought it back to 15-13 after 3 and 1/2 innings. But the stop they needed in the bottom of the inning didn't materialize as the Joints pounded out another 6 runs. Then another 6. Then 7. By the time the dust had cleared, the score was 34 - 15. It looked like (and was) a blowout, but the game was within 2 runs halfway through. There's more in these Cleats, don't give up on 'em yet.
Player of the game: Gord Robertson. Brad had 5 hits, Terry 6, Matt 5, Craig 5, Kahuna had two homers and Moon and Craig each had one. But Gord was his usual rock at 1st base giving everyone confidence and at the plate he was good old September Freddy. 5 for 5 with 5 runs scored. Its easy to say "big deal" when you see the score, but his 1st run took a 6-5 lead and his third came just after the Cleats bounced back to make it 15-13. Great game Gordo!
