Week 7 Review

INTRO

Its a busy upcoming BLOG week.  Tuesday Morning at 6:00 am you'll be able to read a review of the Game of the Week between the Hot Tub Woody's and the Dog Catchers.  On Wednesday Morning you'll see the aftermath of the Grisslies vs. Lucky Stiffs match as one of these teams will climb back to .500.  The title of that BLOG is "I can't fight this feeling" and Rob promises to have another stellar speech.  On Thursday morning we'll release the "Meet the All-Stars" BLOG.  Not only will the final position (bat-boy) be revealed, but Rob and I will give you the "WHY" behind our selections.  Its okay if you don't agree with all the picks.  That's why they have vanilla ice cream.  Even though chocolate is WAY better, some people like other flavours.  However, we really like this line up and will share the rationale behind the selections for those that are interested.  And of course on Saturday we'll be back again with stats and game reviews.

Thanks to Scott Peters, Mark Doyle, Bob Candy, Jason Bowers and others for keeping me up to date on scores for the scrolls.  People seem to be enjoying them.  Thanks guys.

Stats

I'm struggling with the standings a little.  Look at the Tap Masters in 10th spot.  In our league standings they have 9 points and are ahead of the Lucky Stiffs and Grisslies.  Here they are penalized for collecting a tie in their game in hand.  I think its right, but it makes me ponder.

These are just cut of wherever makes sense.  In this case, the cut off is .800.  So in the race for 2nd place (because there's no point trying to compete with 29/29) Phil has a tenuous lead on Al, but then it gets crazy.  Jens is having a hell of year.  There are some usual suspects in here and some nice comeback stories and some rookies!  Not me however.  One day.  Maybe.

Brett Mabee in the top 5 in at bats???  That's the 7th sign of the apocalypse I'm pretty sure.  Don maintains his slim lead from last week.

Well Cliffy responded to the challenge from last week and decided to come back and not protect his lead in this category.  He also had some lame excuse about a spider bite.  Young Clifford got right back into his groove!

Al is still scoring at a wicked pace, but he's getting some company with Curran, Candy and Glecoff all over .600.

Brad Young has scored all but one time that he's been on base.  That's sick Brad.  Al, Mike and Don are at the top of this list too.  and Mr McCarron is starting to work his way up various stats pages.
Mr Lahey continues to lead the way, but Rookie sensation Jeff Sagert is creeping up!

Its starting to bunch up a little bit, but I think Dodge still has a game in hand on many of the other teams.

Another guy having a fabulous year.  Tim hangs onto the lead in this category for another week, but he'll be hard pressed to maintain it with Jens, Doyle and Burton breathing down his neck.

And one more thing....this isn't really a stat, just something that I find interesting.  There are only 8 men left who have scored a run in each game that there team has played:

Al Fry, 23 runs, 9 games
Jens Lepa, 15 runs, 9 games
Mike Douglas, 13 runs, 9 games
Dave Fleming, 12 runs, 9 games
Phil Glecoff, 19 runs, 8 games
Clayton Avery, 17 runs, 8 games
Jim MacDonald, 13 runs, 8 games
Gord Robinson, 12 runs, 8games

Game Review

Banshees 12; Beer Bros. 7
The Banshees hand perfect nights from Paul Koolhaas (who I just realized I've been spelling as 'Koolhaus' for the last two years - oops), and John Tessier who were both 4/4.  Paul also had 2 runs scored. The Beer Bros. were led by Lou Conforti's 3/3 night with a runs scored.  More on this game can be found ===> HERE.
Hurtin' Units 8; Gruesome Devils 16
The Hurtin Units has another perfect night at the dish from Jamie Allan (4/4, 2) and Craig Slater (3/3, 1).  For the Gruesome Devils, Jens Lepa treated his former captains very rudely going 5/5 with two runs scored.  Bob McCullough was also 5/5 with a couple runs.  Mike and James should have offered Jens that contract extension when thy had the chance.
Hot Tub Woody's 6; Brew Jays 14
The had a bit of a strange night in that their top 3 players in the order were perfect, no one else had fewer than 2 hits, but they only pushed across 6 runs.  The box score looks better.  Stike, Jeff Dancey and Chuck Cragg were all 4/4 in this one and Chuck had a run scored as well.   Chris Larkin also chipped in with a 3/3 nigh with a run.  The Brew Jays had 5 perfect nights as they welcomed Rob Hayward the club.  Roger Gaudet (3/3, 3), Rod Duggan (3/3, 3), Matt Foerster (3/3, 1), Dave Polney (3/3, 1) all enjoyed great nights at the plate.
Red Dogs 19; Dusty Cleats 3
After a little bit of a scuffling start, Rob McCarron is starting to look like Rob McCarron again.  He was 4/4 with 4 runs scored in this one as was Mike Candy.  Brad Young and Gary Cox (not kidding this time) were also 4/4 with 2 runs and Bob Candy also enjoyed a 4/4 night.  The Cleats were headed up by Kevin Boston and Scott Barton's 3/3 with a run each and All-Star Mark Doyle also had a 3/3 night.

Dog Catchers 17; Rusty Rebels 12
The Dog Catchers had another perfect night from Cal Steeves who was 4/4 with 2 runs and from Don Curran who was 4/4 with 3 runs.  The Rebels were led by Kevin Moon who continues to have a great year, now up to .833.   He was 4/4 and scored 3 runs.
Tap Masters 17; Dodge City Rounders 18
The Rounders who are thrilled to have seen the last of the Hurtin' Units hung on to win this one that they led 8-1 after 2 innings.  The had perfect nights from Scott Mason (4/4, 1), Luc Schryer (4/4, 4), Mark Bickford (4/4, 1), Tom Enright (4/4) and Adrian Barry (4/4, 1).  The Tap Masters' big hitters were Randy Rose (5/5, 2), Mike Roche (5/5, 3) and Sandy Bell (4/4, 2).

Dislocated Joints 6; Banshees 2
In a well played defensive game, the Joints found some offense from Harley Sherman (3/3, 1) and Emeil Edwards (3/3).  The Banshees had 3/3 nights from Craig Beatty, Frank Laird and sub Don Booth, but couldn't seem to string anything together.

Lucky Stiffs 13; Beer Bros. 10
The Lucky Stiffs were led on this night by John Barlow's 4/4 with a run scored.  Paul Gyori, subbing, was also 4/4 with a run.  Lou Conforti had his second perfect night of the week for the Beer Bros. going 4/4 in this one.  Peter Holmann who has turned out to be a great rookie pickup was 3/3 with a run scored.

Hot Tub Woody's 15; Tap Masters 14
In what future generations will refer to as "the collar bone game", the Woody's held on after captain Jeff Dancey was felled by injury.  Bill Jonkman (4/4) and Steve Brooks (4/4, 4) led the way in this one along with Dancey who was 3/3 when forced to exit.  The Tap Masters had a stellar night from Randy Rose who was 4/4 with 3 runs scored.  Mike Roche was also 3/3 with a run.
Gruesome Devils 15; Red Dogs 18
Simon Smith led the way for the Devils who earned a split on their weeks games.  He was 4/4 with 2 runs scored.  The Red Dogs, who had a 2-0 week, had Eric Hipken going 3/3 with 2 runs and Mark Kolsen 3/3 with runs scored.

Rusty Rebels 12; Grisslies 15
The Grisslies managed to hang onto this one despite the Rebels sub Rod Duggan going 3/3 with two runs scored on two mammoth home runs.  The Grisslies had perfect nights from Doug Dwyer (4/4, 2), super rookie Jeff Sager (4/4, 1) and super-sub Keith Beechey (3/3, 3).  More on this game can be found ===> HERE
