Next Week Schedule
- The Game of The Week next is on Monday night and will be written for Tuesday morning 6am. It is a rematch of the Dodge City Rounders and the Hurtin' Units.
- The Grisslies Edition will not be out until Friday morning as our only game is Thursday night against the Hot Tub Woody's.
Yeah...of course. Now that we're at the quarter poll for most teams I'm going to start breaking individual stats into quarters. So we can look at who's leading the league in certain categories and who's leading the 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter or 4th quarter of the season in the same category. This way we can still recognize players that "get hot" and people aren't penalized for a less than awesome start.
But that will be in the coming weeks. For now - let check out what's going on out there. And were else to start than with proper baseball standings:
What this shows you is that the Joints are cheating and Hugh has a nose bleed from being so high up in the standings! Ok, kidding. These standings are exactly the same as the league standings. That is rare.
Lets look at our top 10 average hitters. It should be noted that I constantly refer to any time on base as a "hit". That's not going to change.
I've cut off all the stats this week as top 10 + ties. This was hard for me because I was #11 on two of the flippin' lists. Lets look at the rookies next.
The only one I haven't seen in this list is Troy Hope, but Radar and Mark speak well of him. 10 rookies over .700, nice crop. And Lahey already a quarter of the way to the century mark for hits. Fantastic!
Now here are your top 10 in hits, irrespective of average.
So my question is this: How the hell are the Lucky Stiffs 3 and 4 when Lahey, Gee and Barlow have 74 hits between them! That's an amazing start for the Stiffer's trio. Also I don't think Schrank is going to have much luck convincing anyone that he's rated too high if he keeps this up. Eric cooled off a little bit this week but is still poised to stay among the hit leaders.
The "attendance" award. You know how this works. You gotta bat high in the order, not miss games, and be on a club that hits a lot to stay on this list for the duration of the year. Some people on this list are a little unusual to see, but that's because holiday season hasn't kicked in yet.
The top 10 improved hitters.
The fact that there are two #1's on the list is stunning to me. Nice to see Cliff, Mr Bales and Pistol Pete off to huge starts too. You can start to see why some teams are doing well (Dodge) when you have players exceeding last year so dramatically.
And speaking of exceeding. Al Fry is scoring just under 3 runs per game (2.857 to be precise). This should remain a good race throughout the season.
This shows the percentage of times people score per time at bat.
So, when Al is in the batters box there is already a 74.1% chance he is going to score a run. With Cal Steeves there is a 53.3% chance. And Cal has the 10th best rating in the league! It just puts Al's run scoring frequency into perspective.
The next view is is the percentage of times people score per hit.
This stat didn't look very different than the per AB one just a few short weeks ago. That's why I wasn't publishing both. But now its starting to show what I hoped. That are some guys, who for whatever reasons are magnets for the plate. They may not get on as much as others, but when they do they tend to score an crazy pace. This isn't to point out poor averages or anything like that, just the anomaly in our league that some of the most important runs come from us more average players.
