Yeah...of course. Now that every team has passed the quarter poll (pole?) I'm going to start tracking winners of categories by quarter...you'll see what I mean. This will give everyone a fresh start to do better in segments of the season as well as try and pick up on some trends. Stay with me, it won't be that complicated.
Oh, another point. A couple of people have mentioned that they don't really dig these stats and that they're largely meaningless. My response? Of course their meaningless. So was Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, but I watched it and I laughed. Is the solution to obvious? If its not for you, just stop reading. Its like the guys complaining about the quality of hockey in the finals. ITS JUNE! STOP WATCHING. In the mean time I will continue to search for a stat that gets me in the top 10 of something!!!!
Anyway, off we go.
The Joints, despite their only loss, still have a 2 game lead. That's actually pretty huge when you consider that there is only a 2 game separation between 2nd place and 12th!
Hmmmm.... I still don't see me in this list. I keep saying Kolsen is a kick-a$$ hitter, and it looks like he's proving me right. Scott, Scott, Scott. Wow. I have nothing to say. And Larry is off to an awesome start too. And we have a rookie in the list! Good work everyone (even you Phil)!
Timmy Schrank. I'm brought back to a ratings discussion. I believe this proves you were incorrect. A great mix of veterans, rookies, sophomores and everthing in between in this list.
Booth and Armstrong (as much as it pains me) are going strong!
So....this was initially set up to be Cliff Stacey. Then I realized that Cliffy-boy had sat out the last four games. Obviously this was to try and retain his lead. That ain't gonna work Cliff. You have to have 2 at bats per team game to qualify for this one and that "deservedly" catapults Rick Hjelhold into the lead with an impressive increase of .290 over last season! But watchout Rick, Mr. Bales is right on your heals!
Lahey is looking tough to catch at this point, but with so many over .700, you never know.
Rookie, Brad Young has been on base 19 times. He's scored 18 times. Are you kidding me? And here I was thinking Al was doing well!
Oh. Maybe Al is doing pretty well. So here is the math. Al steps in the box 0-0 count, and he already has a 74.2% chance of scoring. Not only is that sick, but its more than 100 points better than Dan Routledge in second place. Crazy.
Al's lead is widening in runs scored despite only playing one game last week. I'd say he's fairly hot, no?
REVIEW
Hurtin' Units 19 - Dodge City Rounders 10.
The Units take their second straight game from Dodge. The Hurtin' Units were led by Anicete Goncalves (4/4, 2); Clayton Avery (4/4, 2); Gord Robertson (4/4, 3); and Rob Rumboldt (4/4, 3). The Dodge City Rounders had no perfect nights, but they did get another 3 runs from league leader Al Fry who is now up to 23 runs on the season. For more on this game, click ===> HERE
Gruesome Devils 5 - Dusty Cleats 9.
In a defensive affair that featured a first inning triple play by the Cleats, the Gruesome Devils didn't feature any perfect nights. However Cliff Stacey sat out his 4th game in a row in order to try and preserve his most improved hitter stat. It didn't work. Poor Cliffy doesn't have enough at bats to qualify anymore!!! Back to work Clifford! The Cleats were led by....wait for it....wait for it....wait for it....Scott Barton! The All Star Barton was again 4/4 and scored a run. There was also an anonymous sub who was 3/3 and scored 3 for the Cleats.
Lucky Stiffs 6 - Dog Catchers 20.
The Dog Catchers had the mojo on this night! Craig Escott (4/4, 1); Ingo Barten (4/4, 2); and All Star Phil Glecoff (4/4, 3) were all perfect at the plate. The Lucky Stiffs got their replacement player for Andre Comeau a little to late for this game, but will look forward to meeting Tom Ball soon. In this game though, Jason Chiovitti managed a 3/3 night a run scored.
Beer Bros. 17 - Rusty Rebels 14.
In a game of follow the leader, the Beer Bros. and Rusty Rebels traded identical innings through four; before the Beer Bros. created a little separation. The Bros. were led by Larry Goosney (4/4, 4) and Winston Gayle's (4/4,1). The Rebels had perfect nights from Kevin Moon (4/4, 2) and Steve Greinke (4/4, 1).
Tap Masters 14 - Banshees 19.
Clearly buoyed by the recent acquisition Dan Chiasson, the Banshees had their 2nd biggest run output of the season. Dave Muirhead (5/5, 1); Jerry Muirhead (5/5, 3); John Tessier (5/5, 1); Murray Saunders (5/5, 5) and Paul Koolhaus (5/5, 4) were all perfect for Frank & Coop's crew. The Tap Masters had no perfect nights in this one, but Tim Schrank's 4 hits in 5 at bats was enough to take over the league lead in total hits. You can read more about this game by clicking ===> HERE
Red Dogs 21 - Brew Jays 22.
The Red Dogs led this game for the first 35 outs of the night. That 36th out is a bugger. Especially when its Piero Del Greco against a drawn in outfield. Pieman drives it to the track. Game over. Aside from Piero's heroics, the Jays had a perfect nights from Bo Niederhuber (4/4, 2). The Red Dogs had a 4/4, 4 run night from Brad Young and 5/5, 2 run night from Jim Rouleau. Gary Cox was 3/3. No he wasn't. Hahahaha, I couldn't resist!
Dusty Cleats and Hurtin' Units postponed, make up day to be announced.
Rusty Rebels 14 - Dislocated Joints 15.
The Rusty Rebels battled back in a game they were down in early and made the Joints work for this victory. The Joints had great nights from Harley Sherman (3/3, 1); Paul Gyori (4/4, 1) and Terry Doucet (4/4, 2). The Rebels had some good lines, including Don Booth's 3 runs and Hugh Armstrong's usual sarcasm; but no perfect nights at the plate.
Brew Jays 17 - Dislocated Joints 2.
The Brew Jays, still basking in the euphoria of Piero's walk off shot, laid a beating on the 1st place and previously undefeated Joints. The Jays were busy with everyone on the team scoring a run, but Lynn Foerster had the only only perfect night with 4/4 night with two runs scored. The Joints were shockingly held without a perfect night.
Hot Tub Woody's 7 - Grisslies 6. In what turned out to be a great game, the Woody's got 6 in the first and 1 in the seventh to win a tight one. The Hot Tub Woody's were led by Craig Davies 4/4 nigthh with one run scored. In defeat, the Grisslies had a 3/3 night from Rob Farah and a 3/3 night with 2 runs scored from Scott Pritchard. As promised, here are some pictures courtesy of Samantha Del Greco, thank you again Sam!
Celebrating Art's 1500th hit with the Hot Tub Woody's during the bottom of the 1st inning.
Art with son Jeff, (Art is on the left).
Wow, that bat actually looks proportionate?
Tending to Art's loot. A commemorative ball and a plaque from the Woody's a plaque from Jamie McClean and the Grisslies and a bat from the Grisslies.
