Game 3 BLOG - Vs. Draft Kings - Free Beer Part I

NOTE:

Gentlemen....The league schedule has been revised. Quite a number of poeple showed up for games yesterday only to find that they were going by the old version.  Please refer to the new & accurate schedue on the league's website at http://www.tottenhamoldtimers.ca/pages/schedule.html  If you're having trouble, contact your captains.

The Game

Virtually every game on our scheduled is red circled for one reason or another.  The Draft Kings are circled because a) they're the champs and b) because I really like the way Chuck and Stike run their squad.  They're good to their players & they have are very defense conscious in an offense oriented league.  Oh, and c) they're usually good for a beer.

So let me preface this synopsis by saying, respectfully, that the Draft Kings weren't firing on all cylinders last night.  They played well, but their usual zip wasn't quite there.  I picked them top 6 and still think that won't be a problem for this squad.

But last night, the Grisslies were very much firing on all cylinders.  We started in the field and had tidy 3 up 3 down 1st.  In the 2nd inning we faced 4 batters.  Same in the 3rd.  In the 4th inning was another 3 up 3 down.  The Draft Kings broke through for 3 in the 5th and singles in each of the 6th and 7th.

The Grisslie side of the offensive ledger saw runs in every inning.  Four in the 1st, two in the 2nd, two in the 3rd, one in the 4th, one in the 5th and 4 in the 6th.

While it may look a little lopsided, bear in mind that these Draft Kings have a penchant for coming back late in games.  The Grisslie lead was 9-0 after 4 complete.  It narrowed to 10-3 after 5 and was 10-4 heading to the bottom of the 6th.  The Draft Kings started to get a bit of a spring in their step and really needed a shut down 6th.

The bottom of the 6th opened with rookie Darren Ford (Rob Ford's nephew) getting a crisp single between 3rd and short.  Dan Routledge followed with his fourth hit of the night moving Ford to 2nd.  I singled a one hopper to right to load the bases.  Up steps Geoff Keogh who's smooth effortless swing smacked the ball into the deuce side of the tennis court over the right field wall.  14-4 and the game was essentially over at that point.

Now you know why they named the park after him.

The Contest

Did someone say CONTEST?!?!?

Here is how this is going to work.  I want to raise some attention for the fun division of our tournament next week.  YES, next friggin week!!! It runs from the 30th of May (the Friday night is not confirmed yet) until Sunday the 1st of June.

Last year I ran kind of an impromptu contest based on movie lines that was won by Karen Turner and Danny Chiasson.  This year is going to be a little more challenging.  Its based on personalized license plates that people affiliated with our league may have or should get.  The winner gets $20.00 worth of beer tickets.  I don't know the prices yet, so I can't tell you how many beverages that is yet.  The rules here are kind of important.

1. To enter, you have to be commiteed to play in the upcoming tournament in any division OR you must have parnter, husband, wife, family memeber or significant other in the tournament.  This rule is pretty loose, but it would be a bit of bummer for someone to win and then skip to the cottage for the weekend.
2.  The only accepted entries are by email.  The email must have a subject line of "CONTEST" or I'm likely to miss it.  Emails go to dwyerdouglas@gmail.com .  And you'll have to work a bit.  In the content section of your email you must write the License and the answer:  example:
AVGX3 = Rob Farah
Baryshnikov = Doug Dwyer  (etc.)
3.  Everyone in the list has been affiliated with the league in the last 12 months.
4.  In the event of a tie, the person who got the most right 1st wins (or I'll be poor)
5.  The contest closes this Monday (May 26th) at 6pm.
6.  DO NOT post your answers in the comment section of the BLOG or on Facebook unless you want everyone else to get a leg up on you.
7.  Some of these are ridiculously easy, others you'll need to think about.  Have fun.
8.  This probably should have been rule #1, but you must be legal drinking age to play.

Off you go!
