GAME 7 - Sons Of Pitches - Ye crazy Beer Cup!

INTRO

Some events are bigger than the Grisslies.

I know!  I'm in shock too!

As everyone knows, the Beer Cup was introduced last year and is a trophy that moves from team to team throughout the season.  You'd think that the t-shirt that supposed to travel with it would be enough.

It was enough for the Dodge City Rounders.  But then the Sons Of Pitches beat the Rounders and the t-shirt wasn't quite enough anymore.  The Sons Of Pitches and specifically, David Polny kicked up a notch.  Actually, they kicked it up several notches.

Dave started a nation-wide Beer Cup road trip.

He started in Winnipeg where he had staff members drink from the cup while dolled up in Sons Of Pitches paraphernalia.

Sober

 Sober

Perhaps Not

But the home of Neil Young, Burton Cummings and the Crash Test Dummies wasn't enough for a David.  A young (and by all counts sane) woman drinking from the beer cup wasn't enough.  The cup being 2,252 KM's from home wasn't enough either.

So off the cup went.

To Calgary.

The Beer Cup outside of a modern art sculpture or maybe there was an earthquake that caused all the metal beems to be twisted.

And here's the Beer Cup pretending to take the bus.

Here's the Beer Cup picking up three chicks in front of Calgary's phallic symbol.

Enough?

Apparently not.

You'd think that being in a city that has actually won a Stanley cup in the last 46 years would be kind of special.  Not special enough though.

What to do?

How about Vancouver?

How About Vancouver!!!!

This is obviously in front of the Olympic flame (you noticed the torch, right?)!

And finally....infront of the Vancouver to China ferry.

The Cup is finally home.

The challenge has been made.  What is the challenge you ask?

Well the challenge part wasn't "all" Dave.  It also invovled a notable captain of a certain pylon coloured team.  Pully offered to donate $50.00 to Help The Kids Play if Dave pulled off the photos from around the country.  Mission accomplished and challenged passed.

David will do the same ($50.00 donation) should the current holders of the Cup, the Beer Bros., come up with something creative, clean and interesting involving the beer cup.

Game on.

The Game

This game featured Rookie Night, but we'll address that in the next couple of weeks once everyone has had a suitable amout of time of absorb the evening and get over the embarrassmment.  Then we'll embarrass you all over again!

The Grisslies came into this one with a 2-4 record, splitting their last four matches after opening the season 0-2. The Sons Of Pitches on the other hand had opened the season 3-0 before dropping their next three to fall to the .500 mark.

The teams exchanged zeros in the 1st inning before the SoPs broke through for 5 runs in the second on strength of runs by Vince Basacchi, Doris Casullo, Derryl Gaudet, Dave Polny and Steff Kapp.  The Grisslies could only get one back in their half of the inning with Cal Russell scoring on a hit by Dan Chiasson.

The Sons Of Pitches would widen their lead to 7-1 in the top of the 3rd when Basacchi and Casullo would count their second runs.  The Grisslies would begin their comeback in the bottom of three with Farah, Williams, Routledge and Clark would all count to narrow the gap to 7-5.

The Grisslie defence took over in the fourth, allowing only one base runner in the 4th and 5th  innings, only one run in the 6th and just four batters in the 7th innings.

Meanwhile the Grisslies continued to score, 2 in the 4th on Dude's inside the park homer, 3 in the 5th and 3 more in the 6th on a home run mashed to left center field by Ford.

Make the final 13-8 for the Grisslies.
