Doug: ahhhhh.....this is my favourite time of year.
Rob: why?
Doug: Its the August tournament, you know what that means?
Rob: No.
Doug: Well....It means there's only a couple of weeks left in the season and we have all 15 positions left to sort so its going to be an exciting finish!
Rob: This league sucks this year. Its really fallen down.
Doug: Why on earth would you say that?
Rob: Well last year by the August tournament we had already wrapped up 15th place. We knew how to get stuff done.
Doug: Ya. I see. I think maybe you're looking at the wrong way.
Rob: Doubt it.
Doug: Okay. The other great thing about this time of year is actually PLAYING in the tournament.
Rob: Why?
Doug: Because Rob. We get to just play and not captain.
Rob: What do you mean.
Doug: We have other fellas step up as captains which is fun for them and we can kick back, play ball and not worry.
Rob: I see.
Doug: Fun eh?
Rob: But I'm still in charge, right?
Doug: No Rob. We'll be playing FOR another captain.
Rob: Doesn't seem right.
Doug: Just think of it as a vacation.
Rob: Good idea, I could use a holiday after my trip to the doctor today.
Doug: I didn't know you went to the doctor.
Rob: Yeah, I've been having this problem with my elbow whenever I pitch. Its been getting worse all season. Now it throbbing for days after games.
Doug: Holy crap! Why didn't you say something?
Rob: I thought it would pass. But according to the Doctor its not going to heal on its own.
Doug: Really? What are they going to do? Meds? A sling?
Rob: Nope. Surgery.
Doug: SHUT UP!
Rob: Yep, as soon as the season is over I'm going under the knife. I'm having Tommy Chong surgery.
Doug: [blinking]
Rob: Ever hear of Tommy Chong surgery before?
Doug: I think you mean Tommy John surgery
Rob: hahahaha. who's that?
Doug: The Dodgers and Yankees pitcher that had 288 career wins
Rob: Interesting. But I'm pretty sure the doctor said Tommy Chong surgery. In fact....don't they name things after famous people? Like an Oscar winning actor like Tommy Chong? Who would have a surgery named after a Dodger City Rounder.
Doug: Something tells me you've had one too many Tommy Chong surgeries as it is.
THE TOURNEY!!!!!
Here we go kids, its fun time. Not much to say except a hearty thank you to the captains who have volunteered their organizational skills, time and sanity for the weekend and record number of players that we have signed up! 100!!! This is by a far a record since I've been doing it. Apparently, back when they were keeping scores on an abacus they got 140 players regularly. Of course that was before cameras so we can't tell for sure.
Without further ado, lets get to the teams!
VETERAN POOL
- The veteran pool has existing or former captains heading up teams.
- This pool is also comprised of teams that 'self submitted' their entry to the tournament with a couple of 'add-ons' to try and help strive for balance.
- All three Saturday round robin games will take place within this pool (no cross over)
- All games for this pool will be played on C1.
ROOKIE POOL
- The rookie pool has 4 first time captains! Welcome!
- Each new captain has one or two existing captains on their teams to lean on.
- Each team has a short stop.
- Each team has multiple pitching options.
- Again, all the Saturday round robin games will happen within your own division.
- All games in this pool will be played on C2 & C3
At the end of Saturday, two teams will be eliminated.
You'll need to pay close attention to the standings and schedule in the Pavilion to know if, when and where you are playing on Sunday.
Four teams will be playing Quarter Final games at 10am Sunday on C1 and C3. The Semi Finals and Finals will all run on C3.
See you Saturday and bring your happy pants (not just Cal Steeves, everyone!)
