Rookie Night 2014

Rookie Night

Rookie Night was great.  As per usual.  You know when you have your current sitting president and two past presidents there to welcome the new players that its something we take pretty seriously.

This is the first of several the "MUST" events over the course of the year.  The next one, The Draft is just hours away.  More on that later.

Everyone in the league is important, but I'll admit a bias to our long serving veterans and our rookies.  They are the two groups that make us truly unique.  Our rookies our all shapes and size and as young and 35 and some into their 50s.  They'll become part of a great group.

But first we'll have much fun at their expense.  This song was written by Rob Farah and is sung by Ed Hopkins and Jeff Dancey.  Brilliant job gentlemen.

So what do the rookies have to look forward to this year?  Look, we're just a group of simple guys that like playing baseball.  We have fun with rookies but there's nothing over the top for god sakes.

Here is last year's rookies when we had them working the bar at the Help The Kids Play tournament.

Oh, then there was the Tap Masters Rookie .... weird what happened to his car.

Imagine having your car filled with popcorn.  It STILL isn't all cleaned out yet. You no what's really cute?  The Hello Kitty nap sack that the Dodge City Rounders gave their rookie.

Last years legendary (legen.....wait for it.....dary) prank was executed by the Dusty Cleats.  I pity the rookie that gets drafted to that squad, those guys are relentless.  They sent their rook to Foodland and then surrounded his car in a circle of carts.

We usually have a loose rule where rookie pranks don't extend to the work-place.  However; the Dog Catchers broke that rule for the sake of a superior prank.  They half filled 1000 Styrofoam cups with blue cool aid.  The beauty of this is that you have to drink them or carry the glasses to a sink.  Apparently their rookie was peeing blue for 2 weeks!

One of my favourites.  The Hot Tub Woody's saran wrapped their rookies car.  They're so transparent.

The Hurtin' Units went old school, dressing up their rookie in one of James' super hero outfits.

I call this one the baked potato.  The Draft Kings (notorious potato lovers) set up their rookies car so it looked like it was going on the BBQ.  Note the special attention to the tires.  Well done Stike & Chuck.

So Rookies.  You are now under 30 hours from being on a team.  And don't worry, you can survive all the initiations above.  And when its all said and done you will be part of a great team in a greater league!

Welcome aboard.
